Dear Editor:
…
There were four significant happenings at the Lester B. Pearson School Board Council of Commissioners Meeting on June 23, 2014.
…
1. There was no Budget 2014-2015 discussion, as advertised, because all the parameters from the government have not yet been received. ( My question for the blog would have been: “How can the LBPSB justify an increase of $10,000’s (tens of thousands) for professional development, yet we are down hundreds of students.”)
…
2. At the Public Question Period, three taxpayers (not me) deposited pages of documentation calling for an Ethics Inquiry on matters dealing with conflicts of interest. (They also requested the resignation of Chairperson Suanne Stein Day. )
…
3. It was announced that Marcus Tabachnick former Pearson board chairman, abandoned his quest to be a federal Liberal candidate, and will now be the executive director of the Quebec English School Boards Association. (Note, that if I’m elected chairman of Pearson, my platform calls for the board to drop its membership to QESBA)
…
4. Most important, parent commissioners are demanding a right to vote at both Executive Committee and Council meetings. They rightfully cited Bill 88, which calls for more parental authority, democracy and school board accountability.
